A lot of women are intimidated by cellulite. This problem cuts across race, class, nationality, and even age. In simple, laymen's terms, cellulites are merely deposits of fat under the skin. When the body accumulates a lot of fat deposits can produce dimpling on the skin, which some find unpleasant or ugly.

These deposits are caused by indulging in an unhealthy diet, i.e. eating foods that have high fat content and being unable to utilize the energy stored in these fats. Common problem areas include thighs, hips, abdomen, and buttocks. They can also be found in arms, below the armpit, and even on the chest.

Cellulite is among the things that are very hard to get rid of, no matter how much one wishes it. It is a common misconception that only those who have weight problems develop cellulite, but the truth is, even thin people can have it. Some of the factors that influence cellulite growth are the rate of the metabolism of fat, and overall health. Overall health is inversely related to cellulite formation; in other words, the healthier you are, the less likely you are to have cellulite.

Exercise is one of the best ways to get rid of cellulite. Some simple, but very effective exercises to eliminate cellulite are outlined below.

1. While lying down, draw your knees close your face, until your hips are at a 90 degree angle. After that, stretch your legs up. Your body should form an "L", with your hips at the junction. Then, lower your leg slowly until it is positioned about 3 feet away from the ground. Hold that position for as long as you can.

2. Lie down on your back, with your legs stretched out in front of you. Lift both legs until it is about 3 feet from the ground, and then gradually lower them.

3. You can do this while sitting down. Stretch out your right leg, and then move your left leg slightly forward. Raise your left leg several inches from the ground, and then back down. Repeat with the right leg.

A diet with filled with fresh vegetables, fruits, cereals, and breads made with whole grains will complement your exercises. Be sure to drink plenty of water because it helps in toxin elimination. Spruce up your diet with fiber, but be sure to have a lot of water intake to avoid constipation.
