One of the worst symptoms that we get when we have a cold or flu is coughing. It irritates our throats, keeps us awake at night, and makes us feel worse than ever. We try taking cough drops and cough syrups - but find that after only a few minutes they stop working. We have compiled a list of ways that you can cure that cough.
1. Sometimes when we are trying to sleep we find that our coughing becomes worse. That is because our nasal passages are draining and when we lie down it drains all the way to our throat - which irritates us and makes us cough. When you are sleeping you will find that elevating your head with an extra pillow or two will help them to drain better.
2. You will find that sometimes we are coughing because of the irritants in the air. There are two different ways that you can help to feel better from this. Take a hot steaming shower and allow yourself to breathe in the steam slowly. This will help to break up the congestion in your sinuses and the phlegm that is stuck in your throat and lungs.
3. Another way to clean the harmful irritants out of the air is to invest in a humidifier. This is especially useful during the dry months of the year.
4. Drink lots of water. Not only will water keep you hydrated while you are sick - but it will also help to thin out the mucus that is in your throat.
5. If you really want to effectively loosen up the mucus in your throat and you want fast results than try eating spicy foods like chili peppers and jalapeno peppers.
6. Do not eat any type of dairy products (milk, ice cream), meat, and any type of fried food. This will only irritate your throat and help with the build up of mucus.
7. Get your daily dose of vitamin A, C, and E. These will help to fight against that cough and whatever sickness that you have.
