There
are a number of treatments of acne available these days. Some of them are
really effective and they start showing their results within some days and some
of them work in the long run. The treatments that are more effective tend to
have more side effects. So, its really important to consult a doctor before
using any treatment method. In most cases, a combination of different treatment
methods works better. Here is a brief description of different treatment
methods for combating acne.

Laser
treatment
Laser
treatment has been in use for many years for removing hair but its use in
reducing acne is relatively new. Laser is an intense beam of light that can
destroy sebaceous glands underneath the skin. These glands produce sebum, the
excess of which is the main cause of acne. Though the laser therapy is really
effective in treating acne but in the long run, it can cause skin dryness and
secondly, its quite expensive as well.
Medicines
and creams
Medicines
and creams are being used for treating acne for quite a long period of time.
There are different types of medicines and creams that work in different ways
for treating acne. Medicines mostly work as an internal treatment and they try
to control the amount of sebum produced by sebaceous glands to stop acne while
creams work as an external device and are mostly used for treating acne scars.
Medicines usually have vitamin A in the form of isotretinoin or retinol that
can reduce acne. Injection of cortisone can have an immediate effect for
treating severe acne. On the other hand, creams mostly have benzoyl peroxide
that can give great results in mild or moderate acne however long term use can
cause dryness.
Natural
Treatments
Natural
treatments usually don't have an immediate effect but they can be really good
for the long term. The important thing is that natural treatments usually less
expensive and they tend to have less side effects than medicines or laser
therapy. A number of natural products can help in treating acne like tea tree
oil, carrot seed oil, papayas, fennel tea etc.
Home
remedies
Home remedies are the most common treatments all
over the world but they can only help in treating mild and moderate acne. The
biggest advantage of home remedies is that just like natural treatments, they
are not only less expensive than other treatment methods but they also have
fewer side effects. Home remedies generally include natural treatments but they
are not confined to it. For example, applying tooth paste on the effected area
can also help in treating acne.
